Deadline extended
Tuesday, November 30th, 2004Yay! Temporary reprieve from coursework. I don’t have to get it done until the 17th. Still got to get some work done on my final year project though.
Created a MySQL database account for myself on apple, not sure what I’m going to use it for yet.
The web has a long memory
Monday, November 29th, 2004Found something on the web that I composed during GCSE. As part of the Symphony for Cornwall students attending schools across the region were asked to send in soundbytes that would be incorporated into a musical piece.
A friend came across it when he googled for my name.
When I was out with some of the Termisoc [...]
Insulating tape first aid
Monday, November 29th, 2004Insulating tape is useful. I stood on a PCI slot cover plate and ouch (that’ll teach me not to leave stuff like that on the floor) My foot bled so I patched it with kitchen roll and insulating tape.
Just be thankful that I’m not ever going to perform surgery on you else you’d probably end [...]
Burning Turpentine
Sunday, November 28th, 2004Note to self, don’t do that again. I thought it would be interesting to see how well turpentine burns. I couldn’t get it lit easily. I dropped the match in and it just went out. On the third attempt I got it lit, the flame was tiny, but not for long, in less than 30 [...]
New HDD for Neoseph
Sunday, November 28th, 2004Installed a new HDD in Neoseph it now has 2 x 120GB. The hard drive isn’t actually brand new it’s been sitting around in my room for a while gathering dust.
The dust the inside the case was really bad, it doesn’t help being kept in my bedroom, all the soft furnishings give off a lot [...]
Avoiding Coursework
Saturday, November 27th, 2004I’m busy not doing coursework today. I should be doing it, but when it actually comes to getting work done tidying my room (something which I normally hate) seems so much more exciting.
Smoking (servers) in the union
Wednesday, November 24th, 2004Got a tricky script working today. It feed votes into a web poll with the intention of showing the owners that the results of such a poll are very easily manipulated and should not be used to decide official policy especially on controversial subjects.
I used expect scripting to spawn a telnet session port 80 (http) [...]
PS2 Linux Working
Tuesday, November 23rd, 2004I’ve got to announce this to the world. I sort-of got a new box. My PS2 Linux is working!!! This is good. I was worried that I might have broken the hard drive.
Sorting music
Sunday, November 21st, 2004I’ve been organising my music collection this weekend. This has mostly involved hunting around the house for CDs with my favorite tracks and ripping them using grip and lame
When I have time I might hook up my stereo to the sound card, anything is better than hearing music through the cheap speakers I currently have [...]
