Celebrating arbitrary dates

I’ve never quite “got” celebrating January 1st as the new year it is a purely arbitrary date with no agricultural or astonomical significance. In my opinion it would be more logical to celebrate the beginning of new year at the winter solstice or vernal equinox.

Ever woke up with a song in your head that you had no idea where it came from, that happened to me this morning it was David Bowie’s Life on Mars.
I just saw a clip of John Cleese on TV shouting “Albatross!” and I can’t help but remember being very very drunk.
